Although these pages paint the lives of individual members of my family, a great deal of their content hosts significant historical facts which enhance the kaleidoscope of the existing canvass of the places and eras their lives impacted.

The book highlights 10 members of my family spanning 6 generations. Many were missionaries sent out from Germany by the Berlin Missionary Society; one fought against Napoleon; one was a slave; some were subject to untamed wilderness and savage native tribes and one became highly acclaimed and extensively documented (and dissected!), but was 'kept a secret' because of the colour of his skinÉ.

It also highlights the consequential (and often surprising and even shocking) influence which the BMS had on its members - and the rippling effect thereof.

Injustices, success, astounding feats, great suffering and many secrets were uncovered as the 'silent and dark graves were exhumed' and brought Into the Light.
