Installing the Eaton SmartOnline UPS is a straightforward process designed for rack or tower configurations. Start by selecting a sturdy, well-ventilated location near your IT equipment that allows for proper airflow and accessible service. If you’re mounting in a rack, position the UPS in a 2U slot with clear access to the rear compartment for power and communication cables.
Prepare the installation area and unbox the unit. Verify all packaging contents, including the mains power cord, rack-rail hardware (if applicable), and any optional network management components. Ensure the surrounding environment meets the device’s operating temperature and humidity specifications.
Mount or place the UPS. Use the included stabilizing accessories if you’re mounting in a rack, and secure the unit to prevent movement. Connect the UPS to a dedicated 120 VAC circuit using the appropriate power cord. Avoid daisy-chaining to other power strips to prevent overloading the circuit.
Connect critical loads. Plug your servers, network switches, storage devices, and other essential equipment into the seven outlets. If your configuration includes devices with high startup currents, distribute them across outlets to balance loads and maximize runtime performance.
Configure management interfaces. Attach the USB cable to a management computer for local monitoring, or insert the optional Network Card for remote management. If you rely on serial management, connect the DB9 port to a console or management station. Power on the UPS and navigate the LCD display to configure voltage thresholds, shut-down software, notification alerts, and testing routines.
Calibrate and test. Run a controlled battery test to verify runtime and battery health. Confirm that the UPS automatically switches to battery during an outage scenario and returns to mains when power is restored.
