ABOUT THE PIECE
I've been somewhat obsessed with oystercatchers since first witnessing them on a regular basis while living in York, England in 2020 (the Eurasian species, of course). I find their call deeply haunting and even named a published poetry collection after them ("Summer of the Oystercatchers," Fernwood Press, 2025). In 2024, I had the opportunity to witness a pair of American Oystercatchers along with their two chicks at North Wildwood on the Jersey Shore. It was an unforgettable experience and inspired the creation of this tiny papercraft scene.
