Януш Корчак (справжнє ім’я Генрик Ґольдшмідт, 1878 або 1879—1942) — всесвітньо відомий польський педагог-новатор, лікар, письменник, автор праць з теорії і практики виховання, громадський діяч, зачинатель діяльності на захист прав дитини і повної рівноправності дітей. Мав змогу вийти живим з Варшавського гетто, але відмовився і загинув разом із своїми вихованцями у гітлерівському таборі смерті у Треблінці. 'Мацюсеві пригоди' вважають однією з найважливіших книжок дитячої літератури ХХ століття.
