A&G Folonari B.S.T. Sangiovese & Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is een moderne Toscaanse rode wijn uit Tenuta Vigne a Porrona in de Maremma. B.S.T. staat voor Baby Super Tuscan, een fruitgerichte en jeugdige interpretatie van de beroemde Toscaanse blendstijl waarin Sangiovese en internationale druiven samenkomen. De 2022 jaargang kreeg na een droog en warm begin van het groeiseizoen precies op tijd regen in augustus, waardoor de druiven hun rijping konden afronden met een mooie verhouding tussen suiker, zuren en aromatische kracht.

Wijngaarden en regio

Deze Toscana IGT komt uit Tenuta Vigne a Porrona, een domein in het hart van de Toscaanse Maremma.

• Ligging / Herkomst: Tenuta Vigne a Porrona ligt in de gemeente Cinigiano, in de provincie Grosseto. Het domein bevindt zich in het binnenland van de Maremma, tussen de Ombrone vallei, de Val d’Orcia en de westelijke hellingen van Monte Amiata.

• Hoogte: De wijngaarden liggen rond 350 m hoogte. Die ligging geeft de druiven voldoende zonrijpheid, terwijl de ventilatie in dit deel van de Maremma helpt om frisheid en aromatische spanning te behouden.

• Bodem: De bodem bestaat uit middelzware klei met veel skeletmateriaal. Dat betekent dat er veel stenig materiaal in de bodem zit, wat bijdraagt aan drainage en concentratie in de druiven.

• Wijngaardbeheer: De stokken zijn aangeplant met 5.000 planten per hectare en worden geleid volgens het lage cordon snoeisysteem. Die plantdichtheid en snoeiwijze helpen om de groei te beheersen en druiven met voldoende concentratie te krijgen.

Druivensamenstelling

Deze B.S.T. is gemaakt van Sangiovese en Cabernet Sauvignon, de klassieke combinatie achter veel moderne Toscaanse rode wijnen.

• Sangiovese – Toscana IGT: Sangiovese geeft de wijn zijn frisse rode fruit, florale tonen, levendige zuren en Toscaanse spanning. Deze druif vormt de elegante, fruitige kern van de blend.

• Cabernet Sauvignon – Toscana IGT: Cabernet Sauvignon brengt kracht, structuur en meer diepte in de wijn. De druif vult de fruitige kant van Sangiovese aan met stevigere tannines en een voller mondgevoel.

Vinificatie en rijping

De vinificatie is gericht op fruit, frisheid en een soepele, directe stijl.

• Jaargang & Rijping druiven: 2022 begon met weinig regen en bovengemiddelde temperaturen in de winter, gevolgd door een droge lente en oplopende temperaturen begin mei. De regen in augustus bracht verkoeling en hydratatie, waarna mild, droog en fris weer de druiven verder liet rijpen met veel aromatisch potentieel.

• Vergisting: De wijn vergist in roestvrijstalen tanks en krijgt ongeveer 4 weken schilcontact. Die maceratie geeft kleur, fruitintensiteit en structuur, terwijl RVS de frisse fruitexpressie helder houdt.

• Rijping: De wijn rijpt volledig op roestvrijstaal. Daardoor blijven het kersenfruit, de florale tonen en de frisse Toscaanse stijl centraal staan.

• Alcoholpercentage: Met 14,5% alcohol heeft deze B.S.T. voldoende kracht voor de combinatie van Sangiovese en Cabernet Sauvignon, terwijl de frisse structuur de wijn soepel en levendig houdt.

Proefnotities en serveertips

In het glas is deze B.S.T. robijnrood met paarse reflecties. De geur opent met kers, sinaasappelschil en gekonfijt fruit. De smaak is fris, soepel en aanhoudend, met een duidelijke structuur die aanwezig is zonder zwaar te worden.

• Serveertemperatuur: Serveer deze Toscana IGT op 15–18 °C, zodat het fruit, de zachte tannines en de frisse structuur mooi samenkomen.

• Gerechten: Lekker bij pasta met vleessaus, rood vlees, Toscaanse vleeswaren, pizza met mediterrane toppings, fingerfood en borrelgerechten.

Easy to use for a clean looking cut!
I do wish there was a cordless version but I'm so glad I bought this. It took some time to edge everything the first time because I had to cut the lines but it's been a breeze ever since. I just walk the perimeter of the yard and driveway and it does it's job with ease. The front wheel has three settings which determines how far down the blade cuts and the blade has two settings for edging or trenching. The handle is stationary but it can be lifted up or down. There's a guideline on top of the blade guard that helps identify where the blade is going to make the cut. TIP: Lean it back on the back wheels before pulling the trigger and slowly bring it down because it will jump if the blade isn't lined up and touches the concrete. It doesn't roll well in the grass but it's very smooth when rolled on the concrete. It's definitely worth having to give a clean and finished look. It's well built and isn't too heavy but definitely has some weight to it. It's only loud when the blade hits the concrete otherwise it sounds like a drone. The only complaint I have is that I have to watch the cord closely other than that it's the perfect tool to give a clean look to the yard.

Great tool, well worth the money!
I'm thrilled and pleased with the Worx edger. I bought it because it's electric, cheaper than other styles and I don't have to fool with a 2 stroke engine. I bought Worx, because it has a good guide to help me keep the blade away from the sidewalk, as well as a white mark on the housing to give a general idea of where the blade was. Also I thought it seemed to have a good engine. Now I'm sure it has a good engine. I looked at 3 other comparable trimmers, and because of the guide and engine, chose Worx. I read the 1 star reviews, many of the 5 star reviews and in between, as well as all the specifications I could. One of the competitors was attractive to me, but the 1 stars indicated there was a small tendency for the engine to quit. There were many less reviews for most of the models and many for that one, but I chose this one for the same amperage of engine, but less HP, which might, in my mind, over-work the engine which would account for it being ruined. One had a better warranty, but Amazon offered 2 more years for about $750, so I upgraded the warranty to 4 years,I have Tall Fescue grass in sandy loam soil in SE Wyo because of drought resistance, and it's a Northern grass). The grass is taller and tough as well as more in clumps. The ground probably is much easier to work than clay. The edger handled the tall grass ok, with all the clippings which had accumulated. I It was a long hard job to do the first trimming, and I was impressed with the 'Worx. I tried not to work it harder than necessary but it took more than 5 or 6 hours of work. I used the blade down almost to the long hole marker and had parts of 2 teeth left. It worked well; didn't clog; had power. Didn't ruin the engine. Didn't work me hard! I had to tighten the blade after about 10 feet, but only that once. In one area I had to run it on the wrong side, with the wheels on the grass. It worked ok, but worked much better where it was possible to put the wheels on the cement, and thus use the guide! It would be nice to be able to move the handle and the guide to the other side instead of the way I did it. The cord holder worked poorly for a 3 wire 12 gauge extension cord, but worked fine when I got out the smaller 14 g. The metal trimmer guide that helps hold the blade away from the side walk pulls up for use of the edger as a trencher. My lawn looks terrific. The blades were MUCH more expensive than the B & D; so before I bought Worx, I searched the internet and found an electric company which had a 3 pack of original equipment blades for it for $28, and on sale for $22. I scored on the tool, and on the blades! PTL!!

Great but could be Epic
If you’re looking for a solid edger for sidewalks and driveways, this is a great tool. It’s powerful, well-built, easy to assemble, and simple to use. For edging, I would definitely recommend it. However, I wouldn’t recommend it as a true trencher. I bought it for both purposes but mainly needed it for trenching. The maximum cutting depth is only about 1.5 inches, which isn’t deep enough for most garden borders or running cable. In my opinion, a real trencher should be able to reach at least 3 inches deep. The limitation comes down to the blade size and guard design. WORX could improve this model with a larger blade guard and additional wheel depth settings. If they released a version capable of 3–3.25 inch trenching depth, it would really stand out in the market. Overall, it’s an excellent edger, just not a true trencher.

Gets the job done for a small lawn

I have a smaller yard, and this works GREAT!!! I have used it several times now. I do not use the bag because my municipality doesn't pick up yard clippings more than once a year. I mow every 7 to 10 days on a middle setting. The only thing that I can complain about is that it doesn't work well if pulling it in reverse. It still cuts fine, but the rubber flap that keeps the grass from flying back at you is a bit long if you want to be able to pull the mower. It can be removed easily if you choose to, but I would at least recommend wearing eye protection if you take it off since it is there for a reason. It maneuvers easily and gets very close to the edges, so I have not had to weed whack at all! It is a light mower and easy to use. Basic maintenance like keeping it covered or in a dry spot when not in use and flipping it to the side to clean the debris from under it after use, and you should have a good mower for a long time. That being said... I DID get the 3-year warranty on it. I know from a past experience with a different company that electric corded mowers are VERY hard to get serviced, so if anything goes wrong, you basically have to replace it. At least this way, my investment will be guaranteed to last several years.
