About El Tesoro Tequila Reposado

There's the tequila most people drink.  And then there are bottles like El Tesoro. Its name may not be on billboards, but it's definitely on the lips of tequila enthusiasts across the country.

Hand-crafted, and known for its sweet agave profile, El Tesoro Reposado is aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels anywhere from nine to eleven months. The extra aging on this reposado is what creates the sweet, complex, and agave-forward flavor that sets it apart.

El Tesoro (Spanish for "the treasure) is considered to be one of the treasures of Jalisco and is produced at La Alteña Distillery, a highly-regarded NOM.  Its traditional agave rich distillation method still honors its founder, Don Felipe Camarena.

"As you might suspect, fifth generation tequilero Carlos Camarena is a lover of agave. It’s not just that he’s been working with the plant his whole life. More specifically it’s the soul and character that it brings to the resulting beverage. So whenever he deploys cask aging he takes great care to ensure that the underlying vegetal notes are not overwhelmed by cooperage. His Reposado is a sterling example. Just the slightest whispers of vanilla and caramel to elongate agave earthiness anchoring each sip.” -Forbes

Tasting Notes

Agave-forward, with distinct notes of vegetal agave, smoke and a hint of vanilla lingering just beneath its surface. The taste is a perfect combination of smoke and pepper with distinct flavors of oak and agave on the palate that make way for a clean and refreshing finish.

Suggested Serves

  • Paloma all the way. Grapefruit juice, El Tesoro, and just a splash of lemon or lime soda to add some bubbles. Garnish with a salt rim and a slice of lime.
  • It does sip beautifully, but also pairs startlingly well with ginger, so try it in a Mexican Mule

Production Notes

The production of this worthy bottle brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “ attention to detail.” El Tesoro only uses estate-grown agave in its production. The piña plants are not only harvested at peak maturity by the sharp coa de jima, but are also cut down into even pieces to give them an even, slow cook- which requires significant time and effort.

After cooking, the agave fibers are crushed using a tractor-pulled tahona. The extracted juice is then used in both the fermentation and distillation processes to intensify the prominent agave profile that has made this bottle so popular. Precise measurements are taken throughout the distillation process to double distill to proof, ensuring the agave flavor is never watered down.

Post-distillation, the reposado is aged from 9-11 months in ex-bourbon barrels. Finally, each bottle is labeled by hand and sent out with care for your enjoyment.

750ml & 80 Proof

Great travel book for kids.
Format: Paperback
This book was great, I plan to get one for any other city we visit that they have a book for. Good level info for my 8 year old but also had some fun things for my 4 year old to do. Very flexible so we could just see what we were going to see & work it into the ‘mission’. We would bust it out at our cafe/people watching stops to see what we needed to do at the next stop. The information was fun for kids and adults. You get to set points for a few things so the mission is completely attainable no matter what you do in the city AND you can set points for adventurous things your kiddos might not otherwise do... eg I got my 4 year old to try escargot!

Worth it!
Format: Paperback
Great book to help keep kids engaged and excited to tour through Paris. Recently used it on our trip with 5-8 year olds and had a blast searching for paintings in museums or various sites through the city. Had some interesting facts/history to share about the various places (although wish it had more)

Kept a 10 year old engaged
Format: Paperback
I bought this for my 10 year old for our trip to Paris. It contained some activities that kept him interested during our museum/castle trips. It even lead us to Chateau de Vincennes which we wouldn’t have found on our own! The Louvre hunt had us going all over the place (mainly because he can’t leave anything incomplete) but it helped initiate conversations about history. The only issue is that the Notre Dame challenge is sadly impossible to complete now based on the fire in April. I also wish something would be added regarding Les Invalides. If you have elementary aged kids then I would highly recommend.

Excellent addition to a trip
Format: Paperback
Just got back from Paris. My 9 year old daughter loved using this book throughout our adventures. It was light enough to carry with us each day and had a nice mix of information to read and things to look for. There were A LOT of different sites listed. In a week we still didn't get to some of them. Would definitely buy one of these books for another trip.
